Twifo Attimokwa Assembly moves to stop zero percent performance in BECE

The Twifo Attimokwa District Assembly in the Central Region has instituted measures to end the persistent zero percent scores in the Basic Education Certificate Education (BECE) by some schools in the District.
The Assembly believes that the problem should be addressed in order not to deny children the opportunity to access the Free Senior High School initiative to develop themselves.
Mr Robert Agyeman Nyantakyi, the District Chief Executive, announced this at a Town Hall Meeting at Twifo Praso and gave the assurance that the story would change in the coming years due to renewed commitments.
He outlined the measures to include support for teachers to upgrade themselves, teacher motivation and the provision of teaching and learning aids.
Interventions like the School Feeding Programme, the donation of 10 motorbikes to the District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service to augment supervision in schools and the review of the District Education Oversight Committee are part of the measures.
On infrastructure, he stated that plans were underway to complete all abandoned school infrastructural projects including teachers’ accommodation, libraries, and Information and Communication Technology centres, as well as the provision of up-to-date teaching and learning equipment to enhance academic work.
The Assembly had also scaled-up massive construction of rural roads, school roads and pothole patching, street lighting in schools, clean drinking water, Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) and rural telephony to enable teachers posted to such areas to stay.
Mr Nyantakyi re-affirmed the Assembly’s resolve to pursue policies, programmes and projects that would ensure both human and material development to help reduce poverty amongst the people.
The DCE appealed to the Education Directorate to impress upon teachers to do their best to ensure that schools did not score zero per cent in the up-coming BECE.
He said the funds to support the conduct of MOCK examinations was to help students to get better grades in the BECE and appealed to traditional leaders, parents and guardians to rally behind the Government to enable it to solve education-related problems.
Mr Kofi Dei, the Central Regional Director of Information Services Department, reiterated the Department’s determination to work with all stakeholders to enhance citizen’s understanding of government issues.
He called on the citizenry to take full advantage of all government policies while offering their unalloyed support to improve their living conditions.
