Mobile Money Interoperability records more than 4.4million transactions

Mobile Money Interoperability (MMI) recorded more than 4.4 million transactions in its first year of operation. Beginning with just 96,907 transactions in its first month, public usage of the cross network platform grew phenomenally to 422,275 transactions in December last year and 502,873 transactions in May this year. MMI or seamless cross mobile money network transactions became possible in May last year, following a challenge thrown to the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System (GhIPSS), the Telcos and financial institutions by the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The Chief Executive Officer of GhIPSS, Archie Hesse in an interview described the MMI initiative as successful. Ghana and Novartis sign MoU to make treatment of sickle cell disease accessible

Ghana is set to scale-up the usage of hydroxyurea, a generic drug for the treatment of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in all health facilities to reduce the cost of its medications and the burden of treatment on patients and families. This followed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ghana and Novartis, an international pharmaceutical company, at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January this year to improve the diagnosis and treatment of persons with the disease in Ghana Presently, the first consignment of 5, 600 doses, have been brought into the country and would be distributed in all public health facilities across the country to be sold to patients at a reduced price. Hydroxyurea is a commonly used medicine for patients with sickle cell diseases in developed countries, developed by Novartis and approved for use in adults and children with SCD. President commissions 54 new officers into Immigration Service

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday commissioned 54 Officer Cadets into the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) with a call on them to safeguard the national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the peaceful development of the country. Whilst congratulating them on their achievement, the President urged them to maintain high levels of discipline and strive not to compromise on their professional ethics. He said diligence, integrity and honesty must be their watch word to safeguard the nation. “As the Principal Service of our entry point, the Immigration Service is critical to the security of our borders and in the prevention of Cross border and transnational crime.
