Houston flood: Arkema chemical plant fire

More fires and explosions are expected at the flood-damaged chemical plant near Houston, US. The plant’s boss said people should stay away from the area as more chemicals could degrade and combust. But the US environment agency has said there is “no sign of dangerous toxicity” so far.

President commissions 54 new officers into Immigration Service

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Wednesday commissioned 54 Officer Cadets into the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) with a call on them to safeguard the national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the peaceful development of the country. Whilst congratulating them on their achievement, the President urged them to maintain high levels of discipline and strive not to compromise on their professional ethics. He said diligence, integrity and honesty must be their watch word to safeguard the nation. “As the Principal Service of our entry point, the Immigration Service is critical to the security of our borders and in the prevention of Cross border and transnational crime. Upper West RCC releases impounded trucks suspected of smuggling PFJs fertilizers

The Upper West Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) has released the 54 articulated trucks impounded last Monday on suspicion of smuggling over 8,000 bags of fertilizers designated for Planting for Food and Jobs (PFJs) programme. The RCC freed the vehicles upon advice from the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) that cleared the vehicles after thorough inspections on them established they were embarking on legal journey to designated areas in the Region. Mr Eli Tsikata, Deputy Coordinating Director at the Upper West RCC, told the Ghana News Agency that full investigations by the security agencies revealed that the trucks were really moving to appropriate designations. “We called authorities from Accra and they confirmed that the vehicles were going to Tumu and Gwolu and so, we were left with no option than to dispatch them,” he said.
