Ghana Health Service to pilot malaria vaccine in April

Dr George Bonsu, National Immunization Programme Manager of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has hinted that GHS would pilot a Malaria Vaccine this April. He said the two-and-a half year roll-out, would be in four districts within the Brong Ahafo, Central, Upper East and Volta regions, adding that, it would be reviewed and later, extended to the rest of the Country. Dr Bonsu was speaking at the launch of a five-day Strategic Training Executive Programme (STEP) held in Accra for leaders in supply chain management, which as at now, has expanded to five countries in Africa. It was organised by GHS and the Global Alliance for Vaccine Immunization (GAVI) in partnership with United Parcel Services (UPS) to provide healthcare personnel with soft skill, leadership skills and competencies identified with the private sector to enhance their performance. State of construction industry is threat to government – Senior Economist

Mr Habibu Adam, a Senior Economist on Thursday identified the greatest threat to the government as the state of the construction industry inherited from the previous administration which was nearly collapsed. “Monies owed contractors are causing a lot of pains to them, their banks as well as their suppliers. A lot of projects have grounded to a halt because of unpaid monies owed to the contractors, this has contributed to the liquidity crises in the country. “It will be in the interest of government to raise Bonds to clear the arrears before June, 2019. “Beyond June into the raining season, a lot of the projects would have been delayed and will not be commissioned on scheduled before 2020 elections. A quick action is required from government in settling the debts of the contractors,” Mr Adam told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra. Two charged for swindling barber of his unregistered car

Two unemployed men who allegedly defrauded a barber under the pretext of purchasing his Chevrolet Malibu Saloon car valued at GH¢100,000, but bolted with the vehicle without paying, have appeared before an Accra Circuit Court. Richard Owusu and Amos Kofi Nkansah charged with conspiracy to commit crime and defrauding by false pretences pleaded not guilty. The Police are on a manhunt for Diana Boakyewaa an accomplice of the two. The court presided over by Mrs Malike Wornyah Deh admitted the two to bail in the sum of GH¢70,000.00 each with two sureties each, one of the sureties should be a public servant with a valid Identity card. They are expected to reappear on April 11. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Emmanuel Ohene Agyei said the complainant Richard Kofi Kyere is a barber residing at Community 16, while Owusu and Nkansah lived at Abokobi and Kasoa respectively. EC to compile new voter register for Election 2020

The Electoral Commission (EC) will compile a new voters’ register ahead of the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections. A statement signed by Mrs Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, said the decision was reached after extensive deliberations at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting held under the aegis of the Inter Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) on Thursday. Discussions at the meeting were centered on pertinent matters such as; Preparations for 2019 District Level Elections (DLE) and Referendum; Inspection of Political Party Offices; and Updates on the compliance of the political parties with audit requirements. The statement said the District Level Elections and the Referendum would be conducted on the same day during the last quarter of 2019. Ghanaians urged to help purge NIS of illegal foreigners

Ghanaians have been asked to report foreign nationals who may attempt to register for the Ghana National Identification Card to ensure credible and acceptable national identification system. Professor Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA) who made the call noted that an efficient and dependable identification will facilitate the realisation of political and socio-economic rights for the greater good of all. He was addressing a public lecture held by the College of Humanities and Legal Studies of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) on Tuesday on the topic: “National identification system and Ghana’s Development” and gave the assurance that the NIA was committed to building a national identification system that was robust, integrated and inclusive.
